THE GENERAL public is being treated with what I deem as ‘Maxwellian Madness.’ I find that his (M. Maxwell) servile acceptance of the role of ‘mouth piece’ for ‘God knows whom’ most irksome and inane. He seems the typical anti-PPP/C filibuster; so he writes his innocuous nonsense without stopping to think. I sincerely hope that my debunking of him, yet again, will silence him. First, in declaring that (the at least) 7,000 (non-registered) Guyanese don’t want to vote and that they are not interested, is a mere whimsical assumption. There is no ‘posturing and grandstanding over reopening the Claims and Objections period’, since it is necessary to do so in order to accommodate everyone desirous of voting. Mind you, the ID card is not exclusively for elections purpose. If these non-registrants did not want to vote, why is it they are voicing a concerted concern for the re-opening of the process? So, as far as I see it, Mr. Maxwell is not a genuine representative voice in the least. He speaks on no one’s behalf.
Secondly, by re-opening the Claims and Objections period, Mr. Maxwell, I dare you to show me, how that is treading on anyone’s democratic right. In fact, it is giving them ample opportunity to exercise this freedom. If they refuse to capitalize on it, or if it is a wasted venture, it will in no way jeopardize the up-coming elections. After all, GECOM is not an arm of the PPP/C, nor is there a threat to the timely execution of the elections. So why is there the fear factor? I think I know why. You, Mr. Maxwell, just said it by stating that “… if the GECOM Chairman votes to allow the extension of the registration period, this vote will benefit the PPP.”
However, that is up to the voters, whom you say are not interested anyway. So, for one, they may not even register. Then, even if they do, they will not show up. I think that the Maxwells just have a dread of the inevitable, that is, that the PPP/C will win anyway.
GECOM’s not an arm of the PPP
