PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday met six of the eight contestants who will be vying for the Miss Guyana World pageant set for the National Cultural Centre on July 31, after an official launch on July 15 at Duke Lodge.
The contestants were introduced to the Head of State by promoter Nikosa Holland during a courtesy visit at the Office of the President, which she described as most lively and relaxing.
“We talked about climate change, the direction of our country… we did some playful chatting too… the girls had a really good time. They got to see our president in a really relaxed mood,” Holland told the Government Information Agency (GINA).
Following the July 15 launch, the competition will move on to the swimsuit segment which is scheduled for July 22 at the Pegasus Hotel, before the final pageant where the winner will be adjudged. The promoter explained that a talent segment will also be featured.
Among the eight contenders are some from the diaspora in Australia, the United States and Barbados, all of whom are Guyanese by birth or by descent, Holland observed in an invited comment.
The majority of the contestants are holders of bachelor’s and master’s degrees, while others are pursuing studies in the field of law and medicine.
“Bright, articulate, respectable and respectful,” were the words used by Holland to describe the contestants. (GINA)
