Two remanded for Courts multi-million-dollar heist

– PI to commence July 25
TWO men were yesterday remanded to prison in relation to the recent Courts Guyana Inc. (UNICOM) multi-million-dollar heist.
Aman Lallchand (no address given) and Mark Warell, 21, of Lot 84 St. Stephen’s Street, Charlestown, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and were not required to plead to the joint robbery under arms charges.

Particulars of the offences stated that on July 1, being armed with a gun, they robbed Dennis Abrams of $9.9M cash, property of Courts Guyana Inc. (UNICOM). The other charge stated that, on the said day, being armed with a gun, they robbed Dennis Abrams of one .32 Taurus revolver and six .32 rounds of matching ammunition, all to the total value of $126,000 property of RK’s Security Inc.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Patrice Henry represented Warell and requested reasonable bail. He said his client was employed at RK’s Security Inc. and his client is a victim in the said matter.
The lawyer related that on the day in question, while his client was at work, he noticed a vehicle with persons inside, parked in front of his workplace.
Henry said he was informed by his client that a robbery occurred and the police then arrested him.
Lallchand was unrepresented.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, informed the court that the accused and the virtual complainant are all employees of RK’s Security Inc. and, on the day in question, Lallchand and the virtual complainant were working together on Lombard Street, around 17:45 hrs.
Pindar said Warell, in company of another person, went up to the virtual complainant,  pointed a gun at him and relieved him of the gun, ammunition and cash.
The prosecutor said police later conducted an investigation and arrested Lallchand. She said Lallchand subsequently took the police to a house in Berbice, where Warell was located and the cash was recovered, but not the gun and ammunition.
She objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and the likelihood of the accused not returning to court if bail is granted. She also noted that Lallchand has similar matters before the said court and, while on bail, he had committed another offence.
Both accused were remanded to prison and July 25th was set for commencement of the preliminary inquiry.
