Jamaican superstar Christopher Martin and Karma Band from Trinidad will provide the side entertainment, as nine delegates compete for the Miss Guyana Universe title tonight, at the prestigious Princess Hotel. Martin is known for his current chart topping hits such as ‘If you don’t love me now’, ‘Take my Love’ and ‘Giving it to you Right’. At a press conference at the Princess Hotel yesterday, he promised “clean entertainment”, going on to explain that his songs are about love and females and are fit for a Miss Guyana Universe pageant. Martin promised that he wouldn’t sing about guns and knives and anything his family would not listen to.
Karma Band unfortunately could not be at the morning conference as they were scheduled to arrive in the country last night. The popular cross-over band comprises Gregory Ayoun, Ravi Bissamber and sister Nisha (aka Ravi B and Nisha B).
Managed by brother Anil, the band, formed in 2003, is considered the premier cross-over band in Trinidad. They have performed worldwide and perform Reggae, Soca, Pop, Rock, Hindi Film and Chutney at its finest.
Technical Director of the Miss Guyana Universe Pageant, Lance DaSilva, skillfully addressing the issue of some recent negative press about the pageant as pertains to the recently hosted intelligence segment, encouraged persons to come out and have a good time, as, nevertheless, Miss Guyana is one of the most entertaining shows.
Also present at the event was Princess General Manager Muharrem Kulekci, Director of Sales and Marketing Petal Ridley, and Sales Manager Nadine Ming.
