As manhunt for ‘Long Hair’continues…

Curbing acts of piracy is now an inter-agency issue
FOLLOWING acts of piracy in the Corentyne River last weekend, the Ministry of Home affairs (MOHA) said that New Amsterdam prison escapee, Kevin Narine, called Long Hair, is behind the attacks on the fishermen, and the police are still pursuing the fugitive.
Minister Clement Rohee told reporters yesterday that certain recommendations have been made to beef up security at prison installations, following the New Amsterdam breakout.
It is obvious from eyewitness reports that Narine was indeed involved in the spate of pirate activities on the Corentyne River and the offshore area.
“I believe he is very desperate and trying to get the type of engine and boat that would take him to his hideout fast,” said Rohee.

The minister said it is likely, from intelligence received from neighbouring agencies, that Narine is hiding out in French Guiana and Suriname.
In view of the increase in acts of piracy, Rohee said that it is now an inter-agency issue, involving the Ministry of Agriculture, the Fisherman Association, the Guyana Police Force, and the Guyana Defence Force.
The Ministry of Home Affairs on July 4, 2011 said that the “long arm” of the law will soon catch up with wanted fugitive; Kevin Narine called “Long Hair”, who managed to escape from the New Amsterdam Prison and had carried out several attacks on fishermen in the Corentyne River.
