Guyanese hammer attacker ordered deported

. . . leaves girlfriend toothless
A Guyanese national accused of leaving his Jamaican lover toothless after pounding her with a hammer and his fists, was ordered deported after it was discovered that he was on the island illegally.
The accused man, Collis Duke, was told of his fate when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Duke reportedly accused the woman of being unfaithful to him and attacked her at her home in Vineyard Town, after throwing water on her floor to prevent her from escaping.
Police say he used the hammer to hit her all over her body and also used his fist to punch out one of her teeth.
After his arrest, police investigations revealed that he had overstayed his time in the country since his arrival in June 2007, and he was subsequently charged with overstaying.
But he pleaded not guilty to the charges yesterday, claiming he was married to a Jamaican. But Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey sentenced him to pay a fine of $5,000, or serve 10 days.
She also ordered that a removal order be issued for his deportation.
Pusey, who was complying with a request from the complainant who asked that Duke be sent home, then handed down a no order ruling on the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
