FOUR more teams were victorious when action in the inaugural GT&T FastBall knock-out football competition continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden on Sunday evening. Following the opening night, which has been described as massive and one of the biggest of football tournaments; four more teams found out that they were not up to mark for this innovative form of football which lasts 30 minutes.
There was more exciting action on day two with two games having to be decided by the penalty kick rule, which states that if a game is tied at the end of 30 minutes, sudden-death penalty kicks will determine the winner immediately. The opposing captains pick the kickers on opposing sides.
Trainline, in thrilling style ,were triumphant via penalty kicks, coming from behind, over Snatchers following a 3-3 stalemate at the end of regulation time. Trainline won 1-0 on penalty kicks.
Snatchers cantered into the lead via the blueball in the 14th minute, Julian Davidson being the scorer. That lead was increased to three in the first minute of the second half through a Jemo Anthony goal.
At this juncture, Snatchers felt that they were in a comfort zone and would sail to a comfortable win but that was not to be as Trainline finally got going in crunch time. The lead was narrowed in the 23rd minute through an Elford Griffith goal and with two minutes to game time Cleveland Davids scored with the blue ball to draw his team level.       
Trainline will now play Winners Connection in the next round of the competition, the latter gaining victory without breaking a sweat. Their opponents Young Warriors were not able to field a team due to circumstances beyond their control.
Pioneer also booked a place in the next round of the tournament against Coomacka who were victorious on the opening night against Eagles United.
Pioneer sent Silver Shattas Goal Getters packing 2-1 on penalty kicks following another pulsating 3-3 finish when regulation time was exhausted.
Pioneer took the lead seven minutes into the game through a Randy Small goal but 3 minutes later, Silver Shattas drew level compliments of Damien Williams. The lead for Silver Shattas was increased to 3 goals one minute before the half, Michael Duke blasting the nets with the blue ball, 3-1 in favour of the Shattas.
It took some doing for Pioneer to engineer a comeback but that they achieved through goals from Lindie Johnson (21) and Marlon Donnily in the 26th minute to tie the game and force penalty kicks which they won 2-1.
Opening play saw Bosai & Company easily disposing of Glasgow who had taken the early lead just 4 minutes into the action when Travis Hinds found the back of the nets. That was the last time they were able to hit the target as Bosai & Company drilled three unanswered goals – a blue ball strike by Derrol Dainty in the 14th minute and Randy Saunders in the 24th.
The tournament will continue today at the same venue with four more matches from 18:00hrs.
First, Valley Hill Shattas oppose Yarrowkabra; Silver Shattas All Stars play Hot Spurs; Amelia’s Ward-B will seek to emulate their A-team when they come up against Topp XX-B whose A-side was also triumphant in their opening game. The match tomorrow features Blueberry Hill against Street Vibes.
