Remigration evidenced by housing demand

– President Jagdeo
PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo told the regional media at a press conference Saturday night that based on the demand for housing and his administration’s housing programme in Guyana, it is fair to say that remigration has increased.
The President said, “The demand now is over 2,000 house lots for such persons.”

Some have applied and are prepared to pay, while some are already in receipt of their land. He reminded however, that there exists a six-month window period during which such persons are required to build their homes.

President Jagdeo referred to the phenomenon as huge, adding that he suspects the global recession could be a contributing factor. He said this must be placed against the backdrop that Guyana’s economy has done fairly well with an average positive growth rate of four to five percent from 2006 to the present.
