APNU is an ambitious shell party

THE new democratic culture in Guyana since 1992 has seen more and more political parties, most of which are mere shells. This APNU is an ambitious shell party trying their utmost to defeat the powerful PPP/C in the upcoming Regional and General Elections. As politicians and dialecticians we must however, examine their past trends and contradictions and indentify their record of achievements in the past.
The myth of the PNC ” break-through” and two-thirds majority at elections in 1968,1973,1980 and 1985 which were all massively rigged. For the PNC, it can be said that with free and fair elections, history repeated itself. The APNU will never win a plurality of votes over the PPP/C in any elections in Guyana; they will always be the loser. This party zealot has already indentified some basic flaws as an over-concentration on one man, David Granger.
Experienced party campaigners, including longstanding members and parliamentarians, will be dropped as candidates. The APNUs will plan their hopes on a race and demographic strategy based on assumptions of a drop in the Indian population mainly due to emigration, and cross-over votes, but they are dead wrong. The hostile media, and mainly opposition television stations, will be key players in planting lies against the PPP/C and anti-PPP/C propaganda. One thing is clear; so far the PPP/C is on record for professional conduct and a peaceful party against public terror against the business community and its supporters.
When the PPP/C assumed office within the orbit of the new globalisation and liberalisation trend, our late leader President Dr Cheddi Jagan had said that we would walk between the raindrops of conformation and transformation. Our party must work more militantly and not just accept that it is business as usual. I am convinced that beneath the veneer of calm the enemies of democracy are planning and working over-time.
