Perry clocks 10.20 secs to take 100m
GUYANA Defence Force’s (GDF) Rupert Perry set a damp Police Sports Club (PSC), Eve Leary ground alight yesterday, when he clocked 10.20 seconds to take the 100 metres event in the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG)-organised National Youth, Junior and Seniors Inter-club championships.
So dominant was Perry, that the second place finisher Quinse Clarke also of the GDF was .40 seconds behind him, followed by Enmore Athletics Club’s (EAC) Kenneth Semple who placed third, a further .30 seconds behind Clarke.
PSC’s Leota Babb took the female version of the 100 metres ahead of Nadine Rodrigues and Akela Alves, doing so in a time of 12.60 secs, while Rodrigues and Alves clocked 12.80 secs and 13.30 secs respectively.
The Girls’ Under-18 100m was won by Tiffany Carto in a time of 12.30 secs, with Alita Moore and Latisha Myles occupying the other top two positions with their times reading 12.60 secs and 14.10 secs respectively.
The Boys’ Under-18 100 metres was taken by Keon Lynch of EAC who did so in a time of 11.10 secs from Christopher Hyderkhan of Running Brave Athletics Club (RBAC) (11.20) and Jamal Joseph (PSC) who clocked 11.40 secs.
2010 Junior Sportsman-of-the-Year Chavez Ageday was forced to settle for second place in the Boys’ Under-20 200m dash which was won by RBAC’s Stephan James who clocked 21.80 secs, in comparison to Ageday’s 22.10 sces, with Marlon Moshett third .40 secs.
Both James and Ageday won their respective preliminary runs in the event, clocking 22.30 secs and 22.50 secs respectively, while Moshett clocked 22.80 in his preliminary run.
Other winners of the day, the first of two were Tiffany Smith (Girls’ U-20 200m), Alita Moore (Girls’ U-18 400m), Jenella Jonas (Girls’ U-20 800m), Tisha Grimes (Girls’ U-20 5 000m), Shannah Thornhill (Women 400m) and Ashanti Scott (Women 5 000m).
Errol Welcome, Kariem Aaron, Patrick King, Cleveland Thomas and Wilbert Mingo all recorded victories in the Boys’ Under-18 400m, Under-20 800m, Men’s 400m, Men’s 1500m and Men’s 1 000m races respectively.
Today is the final day of the championships and timings are being ratified and recorded by the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF).
