Court told…

Remanded abduction duo had demanded $4.5M ransom
Police have charged two men following the alleged abduction of Troy Alstrom, last week, from his Meadow Bank home.
Romaine Mc Neal, 34, of Lot 23 Soesdyke Back Road, also on East Bank Demerara and Joseph De Abreu, 29,  appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and were remanded to prison.
They were not required to plead to the indictable charge, which said, last June 1, they abducted Alstrom and wrongfully confined him with intent to conceal him for ransom.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunte, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was standing on Meadow Bank Public Road when the two accused approached him in a white motor car, Mc Neal armed with a gun and they tied his hands and feet.
The prosecutor said the victim was taken to the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMRSC) at Timehri, where they demanded a ransom of $4.5M but Alstrom offered them $100,000 each.
The virtual complainant was then carried to De Abreu’s home and released, the Court heard.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. Gordon Gilhuys, for Mc Neal, contended that the accused knows nothing about the alleged crime and was never before the court for any offence.
Other attorney-at-law, Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat, representing De Abreu, also made a failed bail application that was opposed by the Prosecutor, relying on the Kidnapping Act.
The case was postponed to June 15.
