USA-based Guyanese donates cricket gear to ECC

UNITED States of America (USA)-based Guyanese, Dhanpaul ‘Danny’ Singh, along with several prominent businessmen based here in Guyana, last Wednesday made a tangible and timely donation to the Everest Cricket Club’s (ECC) youth team. In making the presentation, Singh said several talents have been unearthed from the Camp Road-based club at the Under-15 level, including Guyana and West Indies Under-19 leg-spinner Amir Khan, hence he thought it best to make a contribution to that category of the game at the club.
“I have watched, during my tenure in Guyana, several talents being unearthed at this club, especially at the Under-15 level. This crop of players can be easily classified as nurturing grounds for the development of our cricketers, so I thought it best to make a contribution to the Under-15 category of cricketers at the club,” said ‘Danny’ Singh.
According to ‘Danny’ Singh, some of his local business associates include King’s Jewellery World, Travel Span, Leonora Kiddies Cricket, Alba Fuel and Prem from Seven Star Field, among others.
President of the ECC, Rajesh Singh, expressed heartfelt thanks to the donor for the contribution which he described as timely.
“On behalf of the members and executives of the ECC, I would like to express heartfelt thanks to ‘Danny’ and the other donors for this timely contribution to our club.
“This is timely, as we were looking at purchasing gear for our youth players and with two of our players, Sherfane Rutherford and Chandra Hemraj, going on to represent Demerara in the present Guyana Cricket Board Under-15 Inter-county tournament, this is a big surplus for us.”
The donation consists of bats, pads, balls, boots (both full and half spikes), gloves, helmets, wicket-keeping gear, forearm guards and protective boxes. (Calvin Roberts)
