DESPITE their demanding international jobs, one of the most famous mascots of the Easter holidays, Mr. Easter Bunny and his friends took time off to have breakfast with some Guyanese children yesterday at Fogarty’s Rosebud Cafeteria on Water Street in downtown Georgetown.
Special invitees to the event included Mr. Spiderman, Mr. SpongeBob SquarePants and Miss Dora the Explorer, but they R.S.V. Pd that they were currently busy with some children in a neighbouring country, so they couldn’t make it this time.
However, Messrs Superman, Batman and Shrek all jumped at the opportunity to come to Guyana, as they’d had a ball on their previous visits, going to parties all over Guyana and sampling our local fare.
Mr Superman, who works with the Daily Planet, where he is known as Clark Kent, is currently on vacation, leaving the Metropolis unguarded, while Batman left Gotham City to make the trip.
Travel to Guyana was especially difficult at this point in time for the newlywed Mr. Shrek, who had to leave Fiona behind to tend to the swamp all by herself, to come and help out at Fogarty’s.
But it was all worth it, according to one parent, who commented that her child would have “an Easter to remember,” as she sent him to join the many who clamoured to have their photos taken with the famous visitors.
At the breakfast, which was served between 09:00h and 10:00h, the children were entertained with cartoons and music, after which Mr. Bunny taught them how to hop.
Eager to mingle with the youngsters, the visitors surprised their admirers with chocolate, which Mr. Bunny made to appear out of thin air.
The event was not a free one, cause, as you know, we here in Guyana are feeling the pinch of the recession, so though the visitors would have liked it to be otherwise, Fogarty’s had to charge some money to recover the air fare for Shrek and Easter Bunny, who couldn’t fly naturally like Superman, or like Batman, who has his own Batmobile.
But as Senior Supervisor of Marketing, Sherry Alleyne noted, the event was affordable, with the breakfast costing only $280 dollars, and a photo with the visitors costing $250.
