Wakenaam farmers to benefit from rehabilitated road

THE Coconut Dam Road at Zeelandia Estate, Wakenaam would soon be rehabilitated to enable farmers to reap their crops.
This decision was arrived at last Thursday when Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) Chairman Mr. Julius Faerber held a meeting with a number of farmers in the area.

The Chairman told the farmers that despite budgetary constraints, the regional administration and the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) would come together to lend tangible support to ensure that farmers do not lose their crops.
He noted that the completion of the 60 rods road would benefit over 35 farmers who have a total of 350 acres of rice under cultivation.
Pleased about the efforts of the administration, farmers unanimously pledged their support and stated that they would make available their tractors and trailers to assist in the project which is expected to start within days.
Meanwhile, motorists have expressed satisfaction in terms of the road maintenance programme employed by the NDC.
Approximately four miles of road were fixed between Sarah and Zeelandia estate.
According to Zakir Khan, Chairman of the NDC, the maintenance programme would be on a continuous basis. He noted that there is still more work to be done in other areas.
Faerber said he was pleased about the quality of work and expressed the hope that other NDCs adopt a similar approach.
Faerber, along with other regional and NDC officials also visited a number of schools and the newly built airstrip at Meerzorg.
