A LABOURER of Port Mourant, Berbice was sentenced to three years imprisonment by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after he pleaded guilty to a charge of trafficking in narcotics.
Munishwar Permaul pleaded guilty to having in his possession two grams of cocaine.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said that on July 21, 2010, the twenty-five-year-old Dayaram was seen exiting the washroom facilities of the ‘Hooters Bar’, in his home town of Port Mourant, ‘fingering his long booths’.
The act caught the interest of ‘Plain Clothes’ Police Inspector Gillis, who was with a friend at the said bar.
The sleuth confronted the suspect, and demanded that he remove the booth which revealed a white film container in which “a whitish rock-like substance was found”.
Under caution, the detainee – who was unrepresented in court – said, “Officer, I ain’t know is wha me friend give me fo keep”.
In addition to the sentence, Permaul was fined $10,000. (Jeune Bailey Vankeric)
