– in keeping with mandate to assist the poor and less fortunate
SEVERAL orphanages and churches benefited from the generosity of the Food for the Poor Charitable Organisation yesterday as they were the recipients of several household items aimed at improving the living conditions of the residents at the various institutions.
Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc (FFP) , in keeping with its mandate to assist the poor and least fortunate, presented the items, which included  a freezer, refrigerator, stove, washing machine and microwaves to eight orphanages and churches to assist them in the day-to-day caring of children.

The institutions  benefiting from the gifts were Joshua House, Camal Home, Save R Kids, Ruimveldt Children’s Home, Bless the Children, Mahaica Children, Bright Horizon and St. John’s Bosco, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints and Queenstown FFP committee feeding Programme.
During the presentation ceremony, held at the FFP’s warehouse in North Ruimveldt, the beneficiaries took the opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude for the donation, which will contribute to the overall development of the homes and their charges.
In her address, Administrative Assistant at the Ruimveldt Children’s Home, Ms. Jennifer Babb explained that FFP has always been supportive of that entity over the years and thanked them for the refrigerator presented.
She said, “We are grateful to God and to Food for the Poor for all of the help we have received over the years, they have really helped in cutting costs from our budget by supplying us with much needed items to keep the home going.”
Continuing, she lauded the efforts of the Charitable Organization in assisting children and the less fortunate over the years.
“There are 20 children here presently, whose lives will be better because of this donation; if you add up all of the persons from other places who have benefitted then you will see what an impact Food for the Poor has had in helping the less fortunate,” she said.
Accepting a washing machine on behalf of Bless the Children Home, Mr. Leighton Persaud explained that the gift is a welcome addition that will go a long way in the successful functioning of the institution.
He said, “FFP has been a blessing to us now and over the years and to know that we were really in need of this makes it even better. Thank you Food for the Poor for this gift.”
