Female bank employee killed in accident outside Cultural Centre

A 34-YEAR-OLD mother of two was yesterday killed in an accident involving her motor cycle, CF 923, and a route Number 42 (GT/Timehri) minibus on Mandela Avenue, just outside the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown.

Dead is Shondel Samaroo, of 34 Public Road, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, who was also an employee of the Bank of Guyana. The accident happened around 04:00 hrs in the morning and she was pronounced ‘Dead-on-Arrival’ (DOA) at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police investigations revealed that the driver of the minibus, BLL 9965, and the motor cyclist were proceeding in the same direction along Mandela Avenue when the motor cyclist lost control and ended up in the path of the mini-bus and was struck down. The other driver reportedly emerged from the wreck, unhurt.

The impact was heard from a far off distance, and persons rushed to the scene of the accident. The police subsequently arrived on the scene. The driver of the minibus was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, at the home of the deceased, her teenaged son and 10-year-old daughter and other family members were still in absolute shock.
The children, consumed with grief, were unable to even speak, but her brother Jermaine recalled that he was awakened by a telephone call from another sibling, informing him that Shondel had been involved in an accident.
That call was followed by several others, including one from his father, but it was not until the police called them that they realized that she had died.

Shondel leaves to mourn her parents Charles and Claudette Samaroo; two children, four brothers and other relatives.
