McPhoy nets helmet-trick, Andrews hits brace as Flamingo & Pele dominate
FLAMINGO and Pele continued their dominance of opponents when both teams banged their way to respective 5-0 wins over Renaissance and BK International Western Tigers as play in the inaugural Lens Craft Optical/Sunburst Orange Juice (OJ) Under-15 League continued at the GFC Ground, Bourda, yesterday.
Starring on day four of competition was Flamingo’s Alpha McPhoy who found the back of the nets on four occasions as his side dominated Renaissance, handing them their second loss in three matches. The lanky McPhoy sporting the No.10 jersey outclassed the Renaissance defence and goalkeeper Ato Keiler. He netted in the 12th, 31st, 44th and 57th minutes. His teammate Dellon Johnson broke his dominance with a goal of his own in the 48th minute.
Flamingo, after losing to Santos in their first game in a close tussle 2-3 have found a rhythm and winning formula and seems to be improving every game; edging Riddim Squad 2-1 and beating Fruta Conquerors 3-1 before yesterday’s massive triumph.
They have completed their quota of games and have sealed a semi-final berth having accumulated nine points from their four matches.
Yesterday’s other game saw Pele also secure their third win in as many games. Led by a brace of goals off the boot of the consistent Kevin Andrews – his second double in as many matches – Pele tamed the young Western Tigers 5-0.
Andrews, like he did in his team’s big win against Georgetown Football Club (4-1), opened the scoring in the 10th minute as his team found the back of the nets at regular intervals thereafter.
Rondel Dover doubled the advantage in the 25th minute; Quincy Lawrence stretched the lead in the 40th; Wayne Murray made it 4-0 52 minutes on, while Andrews returned to seal the deal and confirm Pele’s semi-final place with another goal in the 58th minute.
Pele, with one more game to play against Sunburst Camptown on Monday, comfortably head Group One with nine points.
