Over two hours of Beres Hammond hits promised at the ‘a moment in time’ concert

IN keeping with their mandate to give as much as Beres Hammond as possible, the promoters are promising that patrons could expect over two hours of nonstop hits from a man called ‘the love doctor’ when they host the ‘A moment in time’ concert. The stage is set at the Guyana National Stadium and the day is Easter Sunday (April 24) with Hugh Beres Hammond, the now 55 year old song bird from Jamaica who has blessed the hearts of many across the world with his bliss of Reggae music.

At a press conference hosted yesterday in the canteen of the events major sponsor – the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), it was disclosed that the show will not be crowded with an array of opening acts since ‘Beres’ himself is an all-night like performer.

Kerwin Bollers of Hits and Jams Entertainment who, along with the Kashif and Shanghai Organization, is responsible for hosting the event, said the Jamaican singer, Alaine, was added to the card, which also has Guyana’s Tamika Marshall and Mingles Sound Machine as the performers prior to the main artiste.

“Beres Hammond alone is an act by himself,” Bollers said, adding “we don’t want to crowd the show because we want people to get as much as possible from him. Right now he’s on the verge of promoting his new album and we know how it is when an artiste goes on doing that; they go on a world tour, so we want to really capitalize as much as possible on that”.

The last time Beres Hammond graced the shores of Guyana was in 2005 for a show hosted by the Kashif and Shanghai Organization at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground Bourda, where he (Beres) shared the stage with another reggae superstar in Maxi Priest.

Bollers recalled the problem the then promoters had in deciding who will be the main act and who will be support, while reflecting that the a level of discomfort was felt when one act took a while on stage.

“We don’t want that to happen again so we think with Alaine, who was here before, and Tamika is good enough. We are not going to drag it out because like I said, we want people to get a value for their money” said the Hits and Jams representative Bowlers.

General admission to the show is set at $2,000 while VIP tickets will be sold at $12,000 and $15,000 respectively.

GT&T’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yog Mahadeo expressed his delight in sponsoring the event and also as being the major sponsor, referring to the show as “something we at GT&T sticks by; keeping Guyanese heart beating”

He continued by mentioned their view that “GT&T is the heart beat of Guyana, I think it’s safe for me to say that and this show is reflects the kind of thing we want to promote and so, we are fully behind it 100%”

Mahadeo explained that they will be giving a $3,000 discount to persons purchasing their VIP tickets that are exclusively sold at ‘Glamour’  but upon purchase, they must show their GT&T phones or show that they are on the network and once its verified, the tickets will be given for the $12,000 rate.

If there’s not sufficient evidence of that person being a GT&T customer, then they will have to pay $15,000 and this Mahadeo explained as his company giving first preference to its loyal clienteles.

Meanwhile, another sponsor, Ansa McAl under their Mackeson stout brand, also plans to make their consumers feel welcomed where its Marketing representative Darshanie Yusuf explained that they will be giving away three VIP tickets with cash to spend with their promotion.

Yusuf explained that all that is required “is six crowns placed in an envelope and dropped off at the White Castle Fish shop and then we will do three drawings where the lucky persons will be given a full VIP treatment for the show, but this will have to be done on or before the 22nd (April)”

Varsha Sharma of Glamour; the famed boutique known for selling brand name clothing, also stated that they too will be making several give-a-ways as part of promotions for the show.

Security
Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major of the Kashif and Shanghai Organization is promising air tight security stating that “a number of dignitaries have stated that they are coming to the show and as such, we are making sure that it will be a safe environment and everyone gets to enjoy the show trouble free”

Major lamented that the event is being organized by two of the country’s biggest promotional group and their track record “should speak for itself.”

Beres Hammond is one of the world’s most popular names in the Reggae genre of music and his arrival is set for Saturday April 23 where it is proposed to have him do a ‘meet and greet’ the fans with him signing autographs and taking photos.
