DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) – Bermuda face the prospect of relegation after crashing to a 74-run defeat against Uganda in their World Cricket League Division Two tournament here yesterday. Bermuda’s batsmen failed to score off 184 balls, or 67.49 percent of the 47 overs they faced, as they were bowled out for 175 after Uganda posted 249 for seven from their 50 overs.
Bermuda, who beat Hong Kong on Saturday after losing their opener to Papua New Guinea, now face Namibia today and another defeat would put them in serious danger of being relegated to Division Three.
Despite the boost from victory over Hong Kong, Bermuda were outplayed by Uganda, who went into Monday’s game on the back of a thumping 205-run defeat against Namibia.
Uganda owed their competitive total a fine unbeaten 66 from wicketkeeper Laurence Sematimba and 55 from Roger Musoke, the pair adding 91 for the fourth wicket.
Bermuda’s innings never really got going, collapsing to 41 for four in the 13th over, and they were doing so badly that they opted to take their batting power play in only the 17th over.
Jason Anderson (38) and Lionel Cann (44) steadied the innings with a 74-run partnership but seamer Roger Musaka removed both on his way to figures of four for 21 from seven overs as the innings folded on 175.
In yesterday’s other matches, United Arab Emirates defeated Hong Kong by 19 runs while Namibia crushed Papua New Guinea by eight wickets.
