THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the joint treason charge against former Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Wharton, serving Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Major Bruce Munroe and his wife, Carol Ann, was adjourned after resumption yesterday because the prosecution was not represented. Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who is conducting the pre-trial proceedings, was told that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mrs. Shalimar Ali-Hack and other State Counsel Sonia Joseph were unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.
On the previous occasion, main witness, Quincy Critchlow gave evidence and will be expected to continue on April 14.
Wharton and the Munroes are accused of having, between December 1, 2009 and December 16, 2010, plotted to level war within Guyana and force the President out of office.
The charge for the capital offence is linked to the Georgetown arson at the Ministry of Health in Brickdam, attempts at Richard Ishmael Secondary School and the Supreme Court and the gun attack at Brickdam Police Station, all in July 2009.
