PARMANAND ‘Ramu’ Persaud, 42, who hacked his reputed wife to death and then ingested poison on Saturday, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday.
Persaud, of Alliance Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, was under police guard when he died. Police said Gaitree Narine, called ‘Lolita’, 26, of Back Road, Soesdyke, also on the East Bank Demerara, was killed by her reputed husband at about 08:10hrs on Saturday at Alliance Road, Timehri, when she went there to collect ‘child support’ money for their three children.
The children watched as their father chopped their mother with a cutlass and then they ran to call their relatives.
By the time the relatives arrived on the scene, Persaud had taken the poison and had plunged into a creek at the back of his house.
He was unconscious when they pulled him from the creek. They rushed him and the bleeding Narine to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Narine was pronounced dead on arrival.
