Sarwan hits unbeaten double for GCC, Stoll, V. Singh and G. Singh also hit tons
NATIONAL skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan struck an unbeaten double century for Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-organised, Carib Beer/Friends of Cricket-sponsored two-day first division match against Transport Sports Club at the GCC ground, yesterday.
Also hitting tons were national middle order batsmen Vishal and Gajanand Singh (no relation) and left-arm fast bowler Andre Stoll for GCC, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Police Sports Club (PSC) respectively. Sarwan and Vishal Singh shared a 284-run fourth-wicket partnership, with the former hitting 16 fours and nine sixes in his unbeaten 203, while the latter struck 14 fours in his 121 as GCC, who were asked to take first strike by their opponents, reached 309-4 at the close of play.
At the DCC ground in Queenstown, the home team took first innings points from their guests Everest Cricket Club, thanks to Gajanand Singh’s 111 that was decorated with eight fours and five sixes, that took them to 223 before they were bowled out in the 54th over.
Jamal Hinckson 26 and Dennis Squires 22 offered support to Gajanand Singh even as West Indies Under-19 selectee Amir Khan and Christopher Surat took 4-55 and 3-67 respectively for Everest.
Left-arm ‘chinaman’ bowler Totaram Bishun then continued his wicket-taking feats for DCC, scalping 4-39 from 11 overs as Everest were bowled out for 81 in reply, with only Gonsalves 24 (3×6, 1×4) and Joseph Perry 14 (1×4) making any substantial contribution.
Omesh Dhanram offered support to Bishun with the ball, taking 4-11 for DCC who reached 34-2 at the close and an overall lead of 176, with Singh being the main contributor once again, as he is unbeaten on 26 that includes three fours and one six.
At the PSC ground, the home team were in control of their fixture against Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) who looked out of sorts without their skipper and national batsman Steven Jacobs. Stoll hit six fours and a similar number of sixes in his 101, as PSC were bowled out for 308.
Pugnacious opener Rawle Browne and Pernell London offered support to Stoll with 70 and 28 respectively, with Browne hitting seven fours and London two while Jermaine Joseph, Damion Vantull and Seon Daniels took two wickets each for 39, 46 and 67 runs respectively.
In reply, MSC reached 72-2 at the close with another West Indies Under-19 selectee Kwame Crosse, who has been handed the captaincy role in the absence of Jacobs, contributing 34 (5×4, 1×6) while Carlos La Rose is unbeaten on 22, even as Stoll and Dickson Yorrick took a wicket each for PSC.
Once again, another matchup, this time the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) versus Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) encounter was not played, since the GDF’s Camp Ayanganna ground was not prepared.
Action in the other three matches will conclude today, with DCC looking to press for an outright victory against Everest.
