Man fined $20,000 for threatening behaviour

– after he accused another of stealing a tank of gas
RICKEY Waheed, 42, (no address given) was fined $20,000 yesterday on a charge of threatening behaviour.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
Particulars of the charge stated that, on April 6, he exhibited threatening behaviour towards Ramesh Deokarran.
Prosecutor, Police Sergeant Sherwin Matthews, told the Court that,  on the day in question, the defendant accused the virtual complainant of stealing a tank of gas.
He further told the Court that the defendant had in his possession a cutlass and threatened to kill the virtual complaint.
In his defence, the accused explained that the virtual complainant was known to him for the past 10 years and, on April 5, he found that a tank of gas was missing from his boat.
Upon confronting and searching the virtual complainant’s vessel, Waheed said that he found the tank hidden below the bow of the boat.
While he admitted to having in his possession a cutlass, Waheed pointed out that he was the one who took the virtual complaint, Deokarran,  to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, via taxi, but was instead charged with threatening behaviour.
The prosecutor told the Court that he had no knowledge of Deokarran being charged.
