SANTOS cantered to the top of the points table in Group 2 as they recorded their second win in as many matches when the Lens Craft Optical/Sunburst Orange Juice Under-15 football tournament continued at the Georgetown Football Association Ground last Saturday.
Santos defeated Renaissance by the odd goal in three; a similar score line was the end result in favour of Flamingo against Riddim Squad.
The other encounter on the day produced a draw between Sunburst Camptown and BK International Western Tigers. The Tigers moved to the top of Group A with 4 points.
Santos, with full points behind them going into last Saturday’s game after an exciting 3-2 win against Flamingo on the opening day, solidified their quest for championship honours with another fine display against a resurgent Renaissance side.
Halfway into the first half Orin Yarde found the opening they were after when he blasted the ball past goalkeeper Atto Keiler in the 15th minute. Renaissance never backed off from the challenge and were matching Santos play for play.
Their resilience paid off five minutes to halftime when Levi Canterbury converted the equalising goal in the 25th minute much to the delight of his teammates. Renaissance were not allowed however, to celebrate for too long as Santos, through a well-executed strike from Travis Fitzgerald allowed them to regain the advantage.
The second half, while it was competitive, did not produce any goals, Santos emerging with full points and now sit atop the table in Group Two with six. Renaissance remain on a single point from their two matches.
Flamingo rebounded from their first day loss to Santos to take full points from Riddim Squad in their first game of the league.
Colin Waterman converted in the 26th minute. Alpha McPhoy sealed the deal for Flamingo in the 57th minute with a well-taken goal, slotting the ball from across the defence and goalkeeper from the right side. The ball hit the inside upright before settling at the back of the net.
Riddim Squad in their first outing pulled one back one minute to game time, Lawrence Benjamin converting.
Sunburst Camptown featured in their second goalless draw in as many encounters as they were held by BK International Western Tigers. The latter still sit at the top of the standings with 4 in Group 1.
For the second week in succession, Houston Stars failed to make an appearance and will no longer be allowed to participate. Competition is set to continue on Saturday at the same venue. Points Table:
