Ryan Guyadin anxious to race on tomorrow

TOMORROW could very well be one of the biggest and best race meets that the GM&SC has ever seen in a very long time, as drivers are taking it to another level to outshine each other. Last weekend, the Guyadin brothers, Ryan and Gavin, launched this country’s first race club; ‘Team Xtreme Racing’ which they say will revolutionise the sport of motor racing in Guyana.
The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has since endorsed the club and recently, it seems as though it will make things more interesting, as the two brothers made it clear that on the track on April 3, either one of them will be holding the flag and doing a victory lap.
Ryan will clash with his brother Gavin in the group three category and speaking to this news paper yesterday, he (Ryan) said that he’s excited for race day, especially since acquiring a new car for the season.
The car he said cost him approximately US$50 000 to set up and so far, things “seem to be coming along nicely. We just got the tuner in from Trinidad yesterday (Thursday) and he will be putting the final touches on the engine. But so far, everything seems to be coming along just how we planned it and it’s just for us now to go out there and win which I’m looking forward to.”
Asked what he thinks will be the outcome of the races in which the older Guyadin will be featured, Ryan said, “Well on Sunday, I will let that answer for itself.”
Gavin over the last two years has been one of the GMR&SC top emerging drivers, having ventured out to compete in the Caribbean, making a name for himself at the Dover Race track (Jamaica) and at the Bushy Park Circuit (Barbados) and he too has spruced up his BMW for a season which promises plenty action.
However, Ryan says he refuses to be intimidated by his brother’s success and superiority, adding, “I will let that be whatever it is on the track, but it will be good for the races and for the fans. I’m looking forward to it, he is looking forward to it and I know it will be exciting, but also we are a team and will be looking to race as one as well as against each other.”
The big buzz about this first meet is that all the drivers are eager to feel what it’s like to race on a smooth track as compared to the rigid surface of the South Dakota track before it was redone, thanks to President Bharrat Jagdeo.
According to Ryan, the track will offer much to racers, since “it’s smooth so, that means it’s less wear on your tyres and less money for you to spend on that as well. Also, it will be better for cornering and you wouldn’t have to pick and chose any spot to drive on because of cracks and so on.”
