GDF to extend services through joint undertaking
CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh has announced that the Regional Administration and the Ministry of Home Affairs are jointly undertaking the building of a pontoon, which the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will use as a base from which to patrol the Pomeroon River mouth.
He said the floating structure will help to monitor the waters which flow into the Atlantic Ocean and strengthen the Sea Coast Patrol Unit of the Army.
Baksh also reported that the GDF presence at Anna Regina will be developed into a battalion and there will be much more patrolling along the Essequibo Coast and North West District, as well.
He said the Regional Administration is very happy that the Army will be extending its coastline services in the Region as the Pomeroon River is a gateway to the Caribbean, Venezuela and Colombia and the waterways need to be properly monitored because of the many illegal activities that take place within, including aliens entering this country through the Pomeroon River.
