2009 burglary accused granted $120,000 bail

DEVON Nurse, 35, of Lot 344 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was put on $120,000 bail yesterday, when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton charged, indictably, with break and enter and larceny. Particulars of the offence said, between December 16 and 17, 2009, he broke and entered the salon of Samantha Boyce and stole booty valued a total of $94,500.
Defence Counsel Patrice Henry, in his application for Nurse to secure pre-trial liberty, said the accused is not a flight risk and will attend court to prove his innocence.
The lawyer said Nurse was never placed on an identification parade or subjected to a confrontation and, although the offence was alleged since 2009, the police have only now decided to institute a charge.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, had no objection to the grant but requested that substantial surety be set until the case is called, again, on April 6.
