Teenage driver charged with Haslington cycle accident

TEENAGER Abdul Asif Gafoor was, on Wednesday last, charged with last Saturday’s cycle accident which occurred at Haslington on the East Coast. According to police, on Saturday 12th March around 18:00 hrs, Gafoor drove motor vehicle PGG 6144 without due care and caution, resulting in an accident and injury to others.

In his defense, Gafoor told presiding Magistrate Shurdell Isaacs-Marcus at the Cove and John Magistrate’s court that, on the day in question, the rain was falling heavily coupled by the place being dark, which impaired his vision.

He added that while driving along the Haslington road, he heard a loud and unusual sound which prompted him to stop. Upon his exit from the vehicle, he realized that he had hit cyclist Patrick Dash, and immediately took the injured man to the hospital.
The 18-year-old Gafoor was then placed on $30,000 bail. (Odella Patterson)
