A BIG anaconda, 15 feet in length, was killed recently at McNabb, on the Essequibo Coast, after it had eaten a duck. Poultry rearer Bibi Majeed, who lives in a lonely part of the village, situated 15 miles from the public road, said she had, previously, lost 10 ducks but had no idea that the large snake had eaten them.
She told the Chronicle that, last Monday morning, while sweeping her yard, she heard a noise in her nearby rice field that sounded like a duck flapping its wings.
She said her son quickly rushed into the field with a cutlass, found the reptile with the duck in its mouth and chopped it to death.
The dead snake was dragged out to a dam where other livestock farmers gathered to express relief at its demise.
