GUYANA Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) has agreed to be the major corporate sponsor of ‘Wedding Expo’, for the next three years. GT&T Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Yoganand Mahadeo signed a contract to that effect yesterday, with Captain Gerry Gouveia, at Duke Lodge, Kingston, Georgetown, where it was announced that the 2011 staging will be from March 25 through 27, by Roraima Group of Companies.
On those days, exhibitors from various businesses will be afforded the opportunity to showcase items they have available for a wedding, ranging from cakes to dresses, invitations, limousine services, jewellery, shoes, hotels, resorts, and every other aspect of such an occasion.
The exposition, at Duke Lodge, will be from 10:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs and visitors will be treated to ‘Wedding Expo’ magazine, that will be prepared by staff of Roraima, featuring the various items available as well as information on related trends and budgets.
Gouveia said GT&T is, again, demonstrating good foresight in coming on board as it did some 15 years ago when it was one of the first corporate sponsors of the Tourism Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG).
“We will see wedding expo moving from strength to strength, especially with this GT&T partnership,” he said, pointing out that the showing will promote new economic activities and serve to also grow small businesses in Guyana.
Gouveia said one of the major aims of the exhibition will be to lobby Government to change the local laws to accommodate wedding tourism here, so that foreigners who want to come and get married will be able to do so without the kind of bureaucracy they now have to face.
He said his only disappointment with the initiative is that it takes a longer time than smaller ones to get bigger businesses involved but is optimistic there will come a time when some will seek, unsuccessfully, to get into the show.
Mahadeo said GT&T is very proud to be associated with the event.
“We feel that the heartbeat of Guyana and GT&T is one and the same. We believe in our theme, ‘Getting Better All the Time’ and we want to make this into a living reality,” he stated.
