I HAVE seen one Harry Ramessar attacking the government for passing legislation to protect State lands. In our country we have cases where people seem intent on land grabbing and constantly taking over prime state lands. The main culprits are not the poor people, but the big shots.
The legislation is meant to protect these lands for future generations.
The legislation does not stop people from getting lands; it just stops them from grabbing the peoples’ land.
If they want land they can go through the procedures of applying to the agencies that are responsible for this.
The legislation is totally in keeping with Dr. Cheddi Jagan’s position of protecting people.
