FEONA HARRIS appeared before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin yesterday charged with unlawfully assaulting Subrina Persaud.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence allegedly committed on March 7 at Stewartville, West Coast Demerara.
The accused, in her defence, stated that on the night in question she was returning from the grocery shop with a bag of rice when she and the virtual complainant had a confrontation.
She said the complainant assaulted her, hitting her on the head with her shoe.
But Persaud said that the defendant ambushed her. The matter was reported and the defendant was subsequently arrested.
They were each placed on a bond until the trial is over, and the defendant was released on $30,000 bail.
The case was adjourned until May 30.
