PHILBERT Cush, 45, who stole his father’s pension book amongst booty after breaking into his house, at Sheet Anchor, East Canje, was sentenced to three years imprisonment on Monday.
Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo inflicted the custodial sentence on the prisoner at New Amsterdam Court, on Monday.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said, on February 28, septuagenarian Compton Cush secured his one bedroom cottage at 06:00hrs and went to seek medical attention. He returned at 11:00hrs and observed that the padlock which secured the front door had been removed and further checks revealed that the hasp and staple, on which another security device was affixed on his bedroom door, was also destroyed.
The older Cush lost his pension book with $67,500, a mattress and mosquito net, kitchen utensils, underwear and footwear, making a total loss of $202,900.
The Prosecutor said, when apprehended the burglar admitted committing the crime but none of the booty was recovered.
Cush, who was freed of the 1999 murder of a Chinese national at Number 67 Village, Corentyne, also in Berbice, has, since, recorded convictions for robbery under arms, burglary and simple larceny, the Court was informed.
