TONY VIEIRA wants Bishop Edghill to resign (SN 2 March, 2011). He further states in his letter “almost everyone in this country despises the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) and Juan Edghill and what it stands for (first paragraph).” Tony Vieira must stop perpetrating his trash and untruths on the Guyanese people. What does he know about the ERC and its activities in the first place? Is Tony Vieira living in Guyana? I know that he had sold his business and departed Guyana quite unceremoniously. He was a PNC Member of Parliament but knows absolutely nothing about the constitutional mandate of the ERC.
As a former PNC parliamentarian, what was Tony Vieira’s contribution towards ethnic harmony in our country? All I know about Tony Vieira is that he is very good at the spewing of hot air and airy-fairy talk to mislead the Guyanese people. At this stage of Tony Vieira’s life it will be good for him to take cognizance that “the old gives way to the new” and that there is a time in a person’s life when “he/she outlived his/her usefulness to society” and it seems that Tony Vieira fits into this category.
Tony Vieira is lying to the Guyanese people and the international organisations based in Guyana when he said that the Guyanese people despises the ERC and Bishop Edghill, because the packed venues of the ERC’s activities show very clearly that the Guyanese people are in full support of the ERC’s activities and its constitutional mandate, thus ignoring the racists such as Tony Vieira, who want to divide our country along ethnic lines. I therefore challenge Tony Vieira to find out from the ERC’s office the number of persons that attended the ERC’s public lecture at Tain Campus, University of Guyana in Berbice, and at the other public lectures which were held at the Constabulary Recreational Hall in Linden. Also, Tony Vieira must find out the number of respected journalists that attended the ERC’s media encounter 2011 at the Georgetown Club.
Sorry, Tony Vieira, the venues of the ERC’s activities were all packed to capacity. In fact, a well known critic of the ERC, who is a columnist of the Kaieteur News, wanted to break up the media encounter at the Georgetown Club when he saw the number of attendees, but he was chased away with his tail between his legs by a veteran and respected journalist. But it seems that Tony Vieira wants Bishop Edghill’s job as being the chairman of the ERC because he wants the Bishop to resign. All I can advise Tony Vieira is that he is not qualified for the post.
