MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica (CMC) – United States finished at the top of Group-B, following a 1-0 victory over Panama in their match at the CONCACAF Under-17 Boys’ Championship yesterday. Andrew Oliver scored his second goal in as many matches in the second half, as both sides qualified for the quarter-finals.
The Americans finished with a perfect 2-0 record, and will face El Salvador on Tuesday in the last eight.
Panama finished as runners-up ahead of Cuba on goal difference, and will meet Costa Rica in the next round.
After a goalless first half, Oliver scored in the 49th minute, when he leapt above the Panamanian defence to butt-in a Mario Rodriguez Jr free kick from eight metres.
Panama managed only four shots on goal the entire match, two in the final five minutes, with their best chance in the 85th minute when second-half substitute Omar Browne’s effort bounced off the inside of the post.
