Peers hail Misir’s latest publication

A RECENT book publication by Chronicle columnist and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Dr Prem Misir, has been hailed by his peers as a fine and seminal piece of work. Most notable among them are Prof. Dr. Baris Karapinar of the University of Bern, who is quoted as saying in his review of the work: “… This is truly an exceptional case-study on a unique socio-economic and geographical setting; a must-read piece of work,” and Prof. Michael Banton of the University of Bristol, who wrote in his review:
“… Dr. Misir shows how an analysis of ethnic imbalance in the institutions of one country (Guyana) teaches lessons for many other countries.”
The work, titled ‘Racial Ethnic Imbalance in Guyana Public Bureaucracies: The Tension between Exclusion and Representation’, was published in 2010 by The Edwin Mellen Press.
The publishers also weighed in on the publication, saying:
“This study explores the political participation levels of two major ethnic groups in Guyana, Indians and Africans.
“It is the first book on Guyana to empirically analyze to what extent the Guyanese society is divided along ethnic lines which feed into the political system, fostering the marginalization of the un/under-represented. Historical and contemporary data on education, health and allocation of public services are used.”
