David Flue, 34, of 54 Graham Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was killed when he attempted to cross the Better Hope Public Road on his bicycle on Sunday night.
Police said at about 20:45hrs, the driver of motor car HB 7247 was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that David Flue, a pedal cyclist, attempted to cross the road and was struck down by the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The driver of the motor car is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
The man’s wife, Carol Johnson, 39, told the Guyana Chronicle that her husband was at home and left at about 21:00hrs to visit a friend in Better Hope.
The grieving woman added that her husband did not go to work on Sunday and was at home all day and after he failed to return home that evening she began to search for him.
She only learnt that he was killed when she showed up at the Sparendaam Police Station to make a missing person’s report.
There ranks told her that Flue was killed in an accident.
Flue was a mason and was the father of six children; the youngest is 21-months-old.
Flue would have celebrated his 35th birthday in March.
Meanwhile, in a separate accident, police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 10:15hrs yesterday on Number 11 Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Dead is pedal cyclist Chandradat Dhanraj, 61, of Number 9 Village, West Coast Berbice.
Police said the driver of minibus BHH 1502 was allegedly proceeding at a fast rate along the roadway when it is claimed that Dhanraj attempted to cross the road and was struck down by the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead on arrival the Fort Wellington Hospital, while minibus passenger Paramdai Kalu, 17, of Plantation Hope, Bath Settlement, West Coast Demerara, received injuries and was treated at the hospital and sent away.
The driver of the minibus is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
