Pele and host club battle in feature showdown tonight
SEMI-final action unravels tonight at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground as the BK International Western Tigers Super 8 knockout tournament continues with what is expected to be a thrilling double- header. The action kicks off at 18:00 h with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) going head-to-head with the Fruta Conquerors followed by the Pele Football Club/BK Western Tigers showdown at 20:00 h, with the winners set to battle in the final next week Sunday at the same venue.
Tigers and Pele secured the last two semi-final spots on Friday night when they humbled GFC and Santos respectively.
In the opening match Nedd Fraser produced a double along with Lorenzo Duesbury who scored once to give the host team a comfortable 3-0 victory over a hapless-looking but constantly rebuilding GFC lineup.
The feature matchup had Pele and Santos battling to a goalless first half, before both teams scored in the second half and at the end of full and extra time, the score line remained the same, forcing the game to go to penalty kicks to decide a winner and Pele came out victorious.
At stake in the competition is $500 000 along with a trophy compliments of BK International, while Keishar’s Gift Shoppe has sponsored the second place prize of $200 000 and a trophy, with the third- and fourth-place teams pocketing $100 000 and $50 000 respectively.
