KN’s very mean, foul attack on Sattaur

AFTER reading the very mean, foul attack on Mr. Khurshid Sattaur Commissioner-General of the Guyana Revenue Authority in the “Dem boys seh”… column in the January 13th edition of the Kaieteur News (Cowshit Gun Wine pun something pointed) points to how the Kaieteur Newspaper is flowering in the new dispensation of democracy to resort to bitter attack on individuals including this public official who has a private life like every citizen of this country, and a family to take care of. Newspaper reporters must understand, especially those from Kaieteur News, that the Commissioner-General is not at their beck and call, when they want to find out about some issue that has no relevance to the GRA that they should disturb him at any time of the day or night at work or at home.

He was quite right to give the reporter the appropriate answer which was quoted in the newspaper. The answer apparently got the reporter angry, who in turn reported the matter to Mr. Adam Harris who feels that Mr. Sattaur has the right to give answers to his outfit when they call at any inappropriate time.

Kaieteur News would have thought twice to call Mr. Sattaur’s predecessor at his home, and whatever was his reaction, the newspaper would not have reported what transpired. It is perhaps to the credit and generosity of Mr. Sattaur that he is so accommodating to the egotism, arrogance and insensitivity of the newspaper reporter and it’s Editor.

Mr. Harris outpouring of bile about the Commissioner-General in his satirical piece, should not really be surprising to those who may be more familiar with his past and present political agenda, and the KN newspaper, particularly the “Dem boys seh” ….piece in which he uses as a publicity platform to write in a derogatory way about people.

He also has a colleague who delights in feeding his own ego by attracting publicity to himself, by what he regularly writes in his column.

Anyone who puts aside the impulse of indulging in personal attack journalism like what is done in the Kaieteur Newspaper, would recognize that Mr. Sattaur has made an enormous contribution to the development of this country, despite the challenges facing the country. Through his leadership, the GRA has been passing its targets every year, despite facing some determined enemies whose writings have no limit, but is only meant to bring down and to destroy.

Mr. Sattaur does not need me to defend him, nor do the taxpayers out there. But there is a limit to tolerance when confronted with the cultural sickness of the Kaieteur News officials who have nothing but venomous accusations and outright disrespect to offer in support of their desperation to embarrass this senior government official.
Mr. Sattaur is a hard worker, his leadership is all about vision and hard work. He is at work every day; even if he is on vacation he is always working, so give him a break.
