Body of former policeman pulled from septic tank

…reputed wife in police custody
THE body of former policeman Igris Bob Blackman, 34, of Parfait Harmony, West Bank Demerara, was found in a septic tank in his
backyard yesterday afternoon by his relatives.
The body bore multiple wounds to the head and body.
His relatives were looking for him and saw a rope tied under the dog pen and decided to pull it. As they pulled, the body, wrapped in
a carpet and secured with the rope, came out of the septic tank.

A pack of cigarettes, his lighter, and a bottle of vitamin tablets were also in the carpet. In the yard, police also found blood-
stained buckets, a mop, a cutlass and a knife.
Blackman’s brothers realized that they needed to open the septic tank after their dogs kept barking incessantly and running back and
forth from the gate to the septic tank.
His reputed wife was arrested and is in police custody.
Brentol Blackman, 32, of Timehri, East Bank Demerara, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that they knew something was wrong when
they tried contacting Igris on his cell phone after a female church friend enquired of his whereabouts.
He added that his brother was interdicted from the Guyana Police Force after two court cases with his reputed wife, Desiree Jeffers,
57, an overseas-based Guyanese, with whom he had a property dispute.

Igris was attached to the Criminal Investigation Department at Brickdam for several years and was sent off after he pushed his
reputed wife, who had showed up at the station and assaulted him in July 2009.
Brentol said he made a report to the Leonora Police Station on Wednesday night that Igris was missing, and he even went in search of
his brother at the home of his reputed wife, but found nothing.
Brentol told the Guyana Chronicle that the woman had even threatened his brother and refused to pay him $6M which she had agreed to,
since the property was jointly owned by the couple, who had separated since the incident of assault.
He noted that the property is valued $13M and he had moved out of the home. He had locked his bedroom and went there on Wednesday
night to retrieve some of his clothing, when he went missing.
Relatives believe that Igris was murdered sometime Thursday morning with the help of three men, friends of his reputed wife.
Blackman is the father of three from a former marriage, while his reputed wife is the mother of four from a past relationship.
