Larceny accused remanded

GORDEN Klien (no address given), was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on charges of simple larceny and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges which said, on January 15, he had in his possession one .32 Taurus pistol and eleven matching rounds, without being the holder of a firearm license.
He was also slapped with two simple larceny charges. Particulars of the charge stated that he stole a blackberry cell phone valued $140,000 from Shondell Jones and one .32 gun pistol from Vishnu Budan, valued $235,000.
On the said day of the incident, the virtual complainants, who share a close relationship, had an argument in front of a taxi service on Sheriff Street. During the row, Jones threw her cell phone at Budan in anger. Budan rushed towards Jones when his gun fell from his pocket.
The defendant, who was at the time in the vicinity, picked up the phone and the firearm and ran. Jones and Budan chased after him. But he fired at them and got away.
A request for bail was denied and Klien was remanded until February 1.
