Police saw defendant attempting to steal
TONY Ellis (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a charge of attempting to commit a felony.
It is alleged that, on January 11, in Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, he attempted to steal 110 feet of arc welding cable, valued $110,000, property of BK International but he pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said police were in the vicinity when they observed the defendant inside the BK compound, trying to steal the cable.
Ellis claimed he was walking outside and not inside the premises when police arrested him and he was chopped on his left hand.
He was granted $80,000 bail and the case was postponed to January 24.
