A man is in police custody following the murder of taxi driver, Dhanpaul Ramharakh, 46, called “Papas”, of Block X Cornelia Ida New Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, on Sunday night.
The wife of the deceased, Naryanee Unice, called “Baby”, 46, told the Guyana Chronicle that the father of two left home for work on Sunday as usual and went to make a drop at Lenora, also on the West Coast Demerara. He called her on the telephone telling her to get ready as he would take her for a drive on his return.
But she had just come out of the bath when she received a phone call saying that her husband was dead.
She later learnt that her husband had received a telephone call from a woman with whom he is ‘friendly’ and who lives next door to the man who reportedly beat him to death.
Unice said her husband’s lover telephoned him to go to her house since the next door neighbour, the suspect, was quarrelling with her and he was ‘cursing’ her out loudly.
The deceased went to her assistance and was allegedly beaten to death by the man.
Unice said that her husband was not at the house of the man who beat him, as reported in another section of the media.
Ramharakh was picked up and taken to the Cottage Hospital where he succumbed to a suspected broken neck.
Ramharakh was attached to King’s Den Taxi Service for the past three years.
He is survived by two sisters, a brother and his mother, and scores of relatives, some of whom had gathered at his mother’s residence to comfort the grieving family members.
Crime Chief, Seelall Persaud told the Guyana Chronicle that the suspect is in police custody and the investigation is ongoing.
