Lethem gas station clerk charged with $2.3M theft

JENNY Davis, 20, of Lethem, Rupununi, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with larceny by clerk or servant.
The indictable charge said the accused, between December 1, 2010 and January 12, 2011, being a clerk or servant at Lam’s Gas Station, stole $2.3M from  her employer.

Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said another person is jointly  charged with Davis but could not make an appearance because of illness and a doctor recommended that she should not travel.
At the request of the Prosecutor, the case was transferred to Lethem Court.
He said Davis was employed as a pump attendant and entrusted to sell fuel and record the sales in a book but she and the other person, who is the supervisor, kept no records and stole the money.
Davis was put on $150,000 bail until March 7, during which time, she must report to Lethem Police Station twice weekly.
