There is cause for concern about a new church

WE are all aware that freedom of religion exists in Guyana. But very little is known about one particular church which came to Guyana not too long ago. This organisation, with origins in Brazil, sprang up all over the country, with its largest centre right in the city. A few years ago, we forced out some American missionaries because their legal documents had expired. The thing about Guyana is that any religion or group of people proclaiming to be “sent by God”, “of God” and “Godly” can come and set up shop in Guyana, no questions asked.
We know too well about the Jim Jones story. We know where that got the small, unknown country of Guyana.
I visited this church I am talking about on Old Year’s night. I took my camera along and took a few photos of the people in worship. At the same time, they had several persons and children laying on the floor in front of what looked like an altar. I had no idea what was transpiring. Anyhow, I was stopped from taking pictures and my camera was seized. They deleted my photos and returned the camera to me. The pastors or whomever then asked me to leave.
Oh, boy, such strange things in this strange land. I’d say this is certainly cause for concern.
