Sentence postponed on clerk convicted of Army theft

A CIVILIAN employee of the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with larceny by clerk or servant. Stacy Sampson, 28, of El Dorado, West Coast Berbice, pleaded guilty to the charge, admitting that, last September 15, at Camp Ayanganna, Georgetown, being employed by GDF, she stole $40,585 from the Army.
The woman said she was in need of the money and took it because she had an important matter to attend but offered to repay the sum.
However, the magistrate ordered a probation report on her background and postponed sentencing to January 31.
Meantime, Sampson was put on $25,000 bail.
