England women beat Aussies in final ODI

ENGLAND’s women won the final match of their one-day series against Australia by seven wickets at the WACA. Australia chose to bat first and made 212 from their 50 overs, Lisa Sthalekar top scoring with 60 from 75 balls as the home side recovered from 48 for four.
Openers Heather Knight (33) and Danielle Wyatt (30) got England off to a positive start and Lydia Greenway then made 59 from 83 balls to maintain the momentum.
Greenway’s dismissal left England 160 for three, but captain Charlotte Edwards (48 not out, pictured) and Jenny Gunn (27 not out) steered their side home.
“I’m really proud of the team’s performance,” Edwards said, despite Australia winning the series 2-1. “We all dug deep to beat a very good Australian side.
“We weren’t at full strength but the team have responded well to overcome setbacks and we will be looking to carry some momentum forward into the Twenty20 series.” (PA Sport)
