The police are investigating a robbery that occurred at about 12:40hrs Wednesday at the Tuschen Nursery School, East Bank Essequibo, during which Parandai Ramroop, 33, of Tuschen Housing Scheme, was attacked and robbed by two men.
Police reported that Ramroop was in the school when the two men entered, choked her, took away a gold band she was wearing and escaped on bicycles.
As the perpetrators were leaving she raised an alarm and members of the Tuschen Community Policing Group responded and gave chase. One of the robbers pulled a gun on them and the two men escaped into the neighbouring village of Vergenoegen.
The police responded promptly to the report and about two hours later, confronted two men sitting on a bridge at Vergenoegen who fitted the descriptions of the robbers.
The police arrested one of the men while the other ran away, firing shots at the policemen.
The police returned fire but the man got away.
