Zeelugt murder victim buried

MURDERED school teacher Saleema Mohamed, 20, of Lot 256 Zeelugt Old Road, East Bank Essequibo, was buried according to Muslim rites yesterday afternoon.
Her estranged husband, Amrit Mohanram, 22, who, allegedly, killed her, will be interred today.

The woman, called ‘Sally’, was found, in her home, about 20:30 hrs on Monday, with stab wounds about her head and neck and pronounced dead on arrival at Leonora Cottage Hospital, West Coast Demerara.
A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene by the Police and further investigations led to the discovery of Mohanram, hanging from a tree behind his residence at Tuschen, also on East Bank Essequibo.
His death, too, was pronounced at the same hospital and Police investigations into the suspected murder-suicide are continuing.
It is reported that the double tragedy may have taken place because of the murder victim’s refusal to reconcile with her husband, who returned to Guyana, from Trinidad, last Thursday.

They had been married for about two years and the wife would have celebrated her 21st birthday on Sunday.
Relatives said domestic violence had caused the Islamic Academy teacher to scupper the union. (Michel Outridge)
